Innovative Seat Design Inspired by Petals

The Petal seat is a unique piece of furniture that showcases the designer's creativity and resourcefulness. Made from transparent resin and scrap newspaper, the seat features a stunning petal-like design. Fu explains that the use of newspapers as the main structure of the seat not only saves resources but also adds a humanistic touch to the design.

The production process of the Petal seat is both innovative and cost-effective. The newspaper structure acts as a part of the mold, simplifying the production process and reducing costs. The seat is made by cutting and bending the newspaper into petal shapes, creating a mold, and pouring transparent resin layer by layer. The resin is then left to cure, resulting in a seat that resembles a flower encased in crystal.

The Petal seat is not only visually appealing but also functional. Its dimensions are carefully designed to conform to ergonomics, providing both comfort and aesthetic satisfaction. The seat is a testament to the designer's dedication to creating furniture that meets people's needs while pushing the boundaries of design.

The Petal seat was completed in June 2015 and was exhibited at Southwest Jiaotong University. It represents Fu's exploration of using common materials to create innovative designs and infusing furniture with deeper meaning and possibility.

This unique design has received recognition in the form of the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2017. The award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of the Petal seat, which incorporates best practices in art, science, design, and technology.
